Type Identification

Platino is a graceful, balanced design with few eccentricities, including the upward-curved ear on the g and the diamond shape of the dots of the i, j.

Times New roman is a serif typeface commissioned by the British newspaper The Times in 1931.

Groudy old style was one of the typefaces originally included by Apple computer in the Macintosh. In the early days of desktop publishing it gained great popularity until it began to be replaced by Times New Roman.

Futura derived from simple geometric forms (near-perfect circles, triangles and squares) and is based on strokes of near-even weight, which are low in contrast.

ITC Century is an updated version of century magazine (1896) and Century schoolbook.  It is more legible and adds flare with the long tail on the Q.  Linoletter was released for fast producing electric publishing. It was published for legibility and the counter x height.  Together they are a great pair because they are both bracketed and modeled. Linoletter’s clear legibility allows ITC century to show off some flare in bigger sizes. They’re commond slenderness counters and hight x height allows for extennsive printing.

Archer is a geometric slab serif dezigned for a magazine. Gentle curves, bouncy ball terminals and a nod antique tradition gives it a great stroke. Avenir is Translated from future in French is a geometric san serif made to be more balanced than futura. It has a differnt Q y and j that gives it a different spacing. Together they embody the love of geometry. They please readers with big almost circular counters. They also have a medium x height.

Univers is a neo-grostesque san serif concieved as a compolete system for metal and photosetting. It is a departure from futura’s sverity and Helvetica’s invisibility. Glypha is a condesed slab serif adjusted for Futiger’s Serifa. Gylpha was released in 1967 after the basic forms of Univers. They share ascender/descender heights, tall x-heights, open counters, closed apertures, and a slanted lowercase t. Gylpha has feminine spurs and angular feet, while Univers is known for its compression capabilities.

Balance composition

I made this composition in adobe illustrator. I used color to bring balance to the image. There are many large calm colored shapes, and fewer smaller agitated colored shapes. I also used gradience in the center to bring the image together.

Balance

I think this photo is balanced. I think it is balanced because the bright colors in the background is balanced out by the dark colors in the front. I also think it is balanced because it uses an appropriate amount of light and dark colors. Lastly I think it is balanced because It uses blue which connects the light and dark colors.

The Anatomy of Type

What i learned about the anatomy of type was that sertain pieces of letters have specific names. The tip of the “A” is called the appex. The top line of the “E” is called the arm and the middle line on the “H” is called the bar.

Typography

After watching the video I think the purpose of typfaces and typography is to be used as a tool and give originality to the things that people write. I think it is used so you can see the difference between things tat are written all over the world.
